Mental illness has been in my family for at least 30 years.  I myself suffer from anxiety, panic attacks and depression.  It took me way too long to recognize and identify mental illness in my family due in large part to my own fear of the stigma of a diagnosis. I began this site, as way to share the stories of individuals, writers, filmmakers and content creators, also affected by this disease whose work has helped me understand myself and my family, as I struggle to provide the emotional support we need. I'm surprised at how very difficult this is.  But, my support group and my instincts tell me that sharing stories, supporting one another and building awareness is the best thing we can do, day by day. I call this site The Black Veil, as I sometimes think I can see the transition from darkness to light that my loved one experiences when depression descends.  Of course I can't really see this, but on an emotional level, I can feel it.     And, I hope that by writing, sharing stories and offering hope, we can all manage to lift the veil from time to time. 

Our Mission

Our mission is to share the stories that have brought us understanding of this troubling disease. Perhaps some book or film mentioned her will help someone in some way.  That is our hope.
